Olympus Jewelry began many years ago when Deb started fiddling with beads as a new mom who needed something for her hands to do while her babies slept or went to school and her husband was off on his military assignments. Over the years her collection of silver and gold findings, glass art beads, semi precious stones, Mexican Opal, Mother of Pearl, jade, and any other shiny, pretty things that caught her eyes, grew into an entire basement full. Deb loved her "hobby" and would whip up dangly earrings for all the neighborhood kids, friends (sometimes strangers) during the quiet hours when she had the house to herself.  But, it was still just a hobby.

With Deb's innovative designs and Mel's quirky promotional ideas, Olympus Jewelry has made a good start. Our concept is simple "Jewelry fit for a Goddess, at mortal prices".  We use the finest precious and semi-precious beads, and sterling silver and gold filled clasps and findings.  The designs are all original - they all come from Deb's very creative brain.

As for the "hook", well, since our name is Olympus Jewelry, Mel and Deb worked to break down the designs to fit into several Greek Goddesses personalities - we call them collections.  Each Collection is inspired by a Goddess’ story - with a modern tale.

Enter Mel.  Mel is also a stay-at-home mom with two kids. Mel used to work from home as a consultant to foreign governments.  She spent the hours of silence at her house on the phone.  She loved what she did, but, being an independent consultant is a project driven career, and occasionally, those projects end, leaving Mel with some down time.  Because of this, Mel's house is spotless, there is no more laundry to do, the yard has not one weed to speak of, and she actually cooks dinner.  This may seem like a terrific development, but Mel is a horrible cook!

The Birth of a Company

The Heroine

Things Get Interesting

So, how do these two get together and make a company?

Simple - The Buddy System!

Deb’s daughter, Ffyona, and Mel’s daughter, Phoebe, decided they wanted to walk together for their last year in elementary school.  Deb & Mel, being very protective, both insisted they never separate and made sure they had a set route they would walk.  Deb & Mel insisted on “The Buddy System”.

After the kids trudged off to school, Deb showed Mel her jewelry and expressed how she wished she could get her act together and sell some of it, but she really just likes the design side of things.  So, Mel says, "Well, Deb, you know, I am between projects, why don't I see what I can do for you....In fact I have a cool idea about marketing."  So, Olympus Jewelry was born and, here we are, a few months later, making little bits of progress (an actual web site - holy cow!)

The Goddess Life!

Deb & Mel - Livin’ the Goddess Lifestyle

She is your typical coastal gal.    Winter finds her in big cable knit sweaters and rolled up jeans to keep her warm while she looks for driftwood on the cold shores.  Summer finds her not far from sunny Southern California beaches, lounging in her bikini, playing volleyball or just walking along the shore looking for an elusive shell to covet.  Her skin is always protected by the latest SPF 50 sun-block, her head is always covered by a brimmed hat, and her feet are constantly bare.  She loves the water; sea, lake, creek, or river; and her taste in jewelry reflects this love, deep blue stones dripping from her ears, neck and wrists; greens and whites, shells and silver chains all are found in her line.  Additionally, she has a chain made from Mother of Pearl and silver that can change like tides from a long single strand necklace, to a double strand choker, to a multi-strand bracelet, or an interesting waist chain that complements any bikini or t-shirt.

Medusa

Snake Haired Gorgon

Known for turning men to stone, this modern day version is a high-powered corporate career woman. She needs no man and can either stop them in their tracks, or attract them with a single glance.  She is powerful, sexy, and driven and successful in everything she does. Her Collection contains power colors - red, black, white, gray and brown.  No frills for her! Everything has to go nicely with her gray power suits, flip phone and snake skin briefcase. She likes pearls, but not "fussy" ones - just simple strands that accentuate her slender wrists or neck.  She loves the darker variety of Tahitian pearls which go nicely with her unruly tresses.

Smoky Quartz, Garnet and Silver.  A popular Medusa piece.

Three sisters who inspire all creativity. We use beautiful Art Glass Beads for each collection. Our modern day Muses fall into three categories:

Calliope, Goddess of Epic Poetry, is now an actress inspiring screenwriters and directors everywhere. She has flowing hair, a killer body that she works on everyday.  She is frequently reported in the tabloids going to one party or another, being seen with different famous actors - sometimes on the same night - when really, she usually hangs out in her jeans with her friends. Men like her beauty, women love her style. Her Collection includes pink and green beads with floral themes and dramatic pendants that bring the focus to her eyes.

Euterpe, Goddess of Music - is a modern day rocker. She used to have a Mohawk, but toned it down when she became an A&R gal for a music company. Her funky clothes reflect her eclectic taste in music - from the Sex Pistols and the Toy Dolls, to Interpol and Hot Hot Heat. She is not above listening to Kelly Clarkson in her car, but she would never admit to it.  Her Collection has a quirky, funky twist - eyeball beads, pear shaped drops in red and black or green and purple - anything that will go with her leather jacket and Doc Martins.

Clio, she gave the Ancient Greeks their Alphabet.  Today she has her own web design firm and is a techno-geek!  She loves binary numbers and can develop code like no other.  She loves cheese doodles and Yoo-Hoo and late nights sitting at her desk playing World of Warcraft with her on-line friends who know her as the totally powerful Amazon warrior “Galena”.  Her Collection is much more symmetrical and geometric than her sisters'.  Circles, squares and rectangles are her favorite.  Any primary color suits her to a tee.

As a modern woman, she is no longer lounging naked on Mt. Olympus courting mortal men with her famous beauty -  she is in love with Love. She is passionate, sweet, every man's girl-next-door dream. She runs a match-making company that embodies the hope of every woman in search of the perfect mate. She is your best friend, your sister, the neighbor who watches your kids. Her Collection combines chandelier pendants and earrings with crystals, pearls, and pink and purple stones. She wears many combinations - several strands of romantic pearls with pink Swarovski crystals hung lovingly from silver and gold chains.  She is always accessorized to the nines and ready for a romantic dinner with a swipe of her pouty pink lipstick.

Aphrodite’s Collection is very romantic.

As the mother of all the mythical Gods and Goddesses, the modern Gaea is the Mother of all mothers.  She is surrounded by kids all the time - they gravitate to her.  She is very down to earth and prone to give out advice - warranted or not.  She looks fantastic with no make-up and her skin just glows with the love of life.  Her collection contains all the earthy colors and reflects her love of the garden.

Pandora

Curious Girl

Remember that darn box? Pandora opens it and lets all the creepy, evil, malicious things out.  Do you know that the one thing that was still in the box after Pandora's faux pax?  Hope.  Today's Pandora is everyone's favorite volunteer and cause promoter.  She loves the Panda's, the Whales, Saves the Dolphins and the Rain-forests, she is anti-drugs, anti-smoking, and she doesn't drink irresponsibly. She wears pink ribbons for breast cancer research, yellow ribbons to bring home her Marine boyfriend, red ribbons for AIDS research, she even drives a hybrid car to help cut down her oil consumption.  Pandora's Collection is inspired by what was left in her infamous box - the hope. Pink crystals, art beads and pearls signify hope for Breast cancer survivors and research supporters. Yellow pearls, crystals and art glass to remind us that there are Americans far from home who miss us desperately.  Pandora's Collection is our way of giving something back to society. We give a percentage of the profits to a corresponding cause - The Susan G. Komen foundation for the pink, and the Military Family Foundation for the yellow.  Additional items for Pandora's animal friends and special causes will be added, or contact us for a custom item.
